Flight Centre partners with another travel tech player

Flight Centre Travel Group has partnered with Brisbane-based company Travello, opening up a significant range of tours, activities and attractions to its two million Aussie customers.

The platform’s range includes walking tours and cooking lessons, as well as more extreme adventure activities like jet boating and skydiving.

Ryan Hanly, CEO of Travello, said Flight Centre is the latest in a string of new partnerships the platform has formed this year, despite the COVID-19 crisis.

“Hyper-local and domestic tourism is the new reality, so we have been working with a range of brands to help them engage their domestic audiences and open them up to the experiences vertical,” he said.

“Experiences are what people travel for – it’s what they remember and post on their social networks. So, Travello is excited to be leading the way in helping brands like Flight Centre bring this to their customers.

Hanly said Travello’s global community of more than one million users has grown significantly through the COVID period, with travellers around the world turning to the platform for their travel inspiration and to connect with other travellers from around the world whilst in lockdown.

He said partnerships like the one with Flight Centre will form a part of the company’s plans going forward.

“This is a great example of two Australian companies coming together to assist in the tourism recovery,” Hanly said.

“This is an exciting phase for us, and despite the gloom, there is a huge amount of pent-up travel demand. It’s a great opportunity for travellers to explore their city, region or other parts of their state and play their part in supporting local operators through the recovery.”

It’s not the first time that Flight Centre has partnered with Travello, with the platform linking up with the now defunct Student Flights brand back in 2017.

The travel giant has also carved out a couple of other tech deals during the coronavirus pandemic, joining forces with Sydney-based Livn in July, and acquiring San Francisco-based business travel platform WhereTo in August.

Flight Centre Travel Group supremo Graham “Skroo” Turner will be speaking at the travel industry’s most thought-provoking conference, Travel DAZE 2020. To find out more or to register, click here.
