What it’s like to stay 5 nights in Thailand’s most remote and exclusive resort

Aní Resorts is owned and operated by Tim Reynolds, a former Wall Street trader who takes a great interest and love in creating art.

With this, he founded the Aní Art Academy, where underprivileged locals learn to paint for free.

Locals learning to paint

In each Aní Art Academy location (Sri Lanka, Anguilla, the Dominican Republic and Thailand), he has also developed an all inclusive resort intended for travellers looking for truly purpose-driven tourism and absolute opulence.

The companies’ name is derived from the Swahili word, andjani which literally translates to “path ahead,” very apt considering Tims life journey from then until now.

Recently, TW was lucky enough to recently be invited to experience Aní Thailand, located on the remote and sleepy island of Koh Yao Noi. The island that can be found 40 minutes by speedboat (or traditional Thai longtail if you prefer, which I do) from Thailand’s southern island of Phuket.

The property features a spa, fitness centre, yoga studio, bar, children’s pool with a water slide and a 42 metre infinity pool with breath-taking views of the limestone cliffs and the sparkling Andaman sea.

In this article, we’ll explore their accommodation and villas on offer in detail. You can see more on their ‘unscripted experiences’ and bespoke guest activities here.

In terms of architecture, the resort was designed by Naga Concept and is reminiscent of the temples of Northern Thailand offering a truly authentic south east Asian experience for even the most discerning of travellers. The villa’s interior largely focuses on warm wooden tones, sophisticated embellishments, neutral hues and traditional details throughout.

The serene property accommodates up to 20 guests at a time and is available for exclusive hire, year round. Perfect for family celebrations, milestones, weddings and multi generational get togethers, Aní is designed to host a reception for up to 60 guests.

The accommodation on offer comprises two ocean front master suites, four master poor suites and two two bedroom family suites.

The Ocean villa is fittingly located right in front of the beach with glittering views of heritage listed Phang Nga Bay. The villa offets a private terrace, generous king sized bed, outdoor rain shower and a vast lounge and dining area. The bathrooms in all villas offer twin basins, deep luxury baths and waterfall showers.

The family villas are located at the rear of the Ocean Villas and they feature two individual guestrooms. There is a spacious living area including a writing desk, large lounge area and oversized TV.

The Pool Suite overlooks the property’s perfectly manicured lawns and the limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay. Each Pool villa features its own private outdoor pool in an external courtyard behind the king-size bedroom. This suite also comprises a double daybed on the front terrace, perfect for a sundowner as the sun sets over the horizon.

Aní Thailand targets a particular type of traveller, specifically one with unlimited budget and champagne tastes. It ticks absolutely every box in terms of personalised service, bespoke experiences and exclusivity.
