Disney excited about prospects of cruise business as Disney Treasure nears completion
Edited by Travel Weekly

Disney has revealed that its cruise business is booming and plays a pivotal role in the company’s financial success as it prepares for the launch of its newest ship.

CFO of Disney Cruise Line Hugh Johnston said the business is a significant contributor to the revenue and operating income growth in Disney’s Parks and Experiences business.

“The cruise business, frankly, is one that has an enormous opportunity for us over time, and that is why we are leaning more heavily into that business,” Johnston told Travel Weekly US.

“This is a business with a lot of runway left in it, and that will deliver great returns to our shareholders.”

Disney Cruise Lines will welcome its newest ship in December when the Disney Treasure sets sail from Port Canaveral. Home to 1,250 staterooms, the ship can accommodate 4,000 passengers and features a range of entertainment and dining options fit for the whole family.

Disney Treasure will sail seven-night eastern and western itineraries to destinations such as Tortola Island in the British Virgin Islands as well as Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.

Disneyland’s park attendance has begun to regrow with attendance and per capita spending on the rise, however, results are still down due to inflation and labour expenses.

Disney Cruise Lines will once again set sail in Australia and New Zealand, departing from Sydney and Brisbane and Auckland on two- to six-night sailings.

“We were thrilled by the incredible response to our inaugural sailings in Australia and New Zealand and can’t wait to return in October 2024,” Disney Cruise Lines SVP Sharon Siskie said at the end of Disney’s first season in Australia last year.

“We look forward to bringing the magic of Disney to this beautiful part of the world as we welcome both returning guests and those who are new to our special brand of family cruising.”
