Ovolo Hotels unveils new ‘all star’ marketing and communications team
Edited by Travel Weekly

Ovolo Hotels has evolved its marketing communications approach and is ready for growth with an all-star team.

A new regional structure will manage marketing and communications for the group’s two brands across Australia – Ovolo Hotels and By Ovolo Collective – including 7 hotels, and 9 bars and restaurants.

The changes see Ovolo’s group director of marketing, Stephen Howard relocate to Hong Kong in a leadership capacity. The relocation will see him focus on future branding and group initiatives alongside founder & executive chairman, Girish Jhunjhnuwala.

Australian marketing and communications will be led Alexander Barnett in a newly created marketing and communications director Australia role, alongside Kate Tulloch as the group digital marketing manager, in collaboration with Howard.

Barnett’s previous hotel and travel industry communications experience at Accor, StayWell Group, TFE Hotels and Radisson, position him strongly to lift Ovolo Hotels profile to new heights. Tulloch brings experience in ecommerce and marketing from global entertainment brands NBCUniversal and Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Australia, including two AHEDA awarded campaigns for Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey.

Interstate, new team appointments include Daisy Slade as marketing and communications manager in Victoria, Jarrod Meakins as senior marketing and communications executive in Queensland, Taylor Knight as marketing communications executive in New South Wales, and Aidee Medina’s internal promotion to Senior CRM and digital marketing executive.

In-venue and on-the-ground marketing and communications leads bring local knowledge and relationships into the mix to deliver a personalised approach, highlighted by Slade’s previous experience at Food + Drink Victoria, and Meakins extensive time at Tourism and Events Queensland.

“Our new team and structure bring a wealth of hotel, hospitality, and tourism experience to Ovolo, and sets us up to showcase everything Ovolo has to offer,” group director (marketing), Ovolo Group, Stephen Howard, said.

“We look forward to continuing to build the brand across Australia and connecting with more travellers.”

Australian PR agency Reymond has also been engaged by Ovolo Hotels to manage communications for its Australian and New Zealand hotels, restaurants, and bars in 2023.

Founder and director of Reymond, Joanna Reymond-Burns said, “It’s tremendous to be working with Stephen again, he is an incredible operator.”

“Ovolo Hotels is well aligned with our agency’s communications specialities and passions, with each hotel’s unique and striking design approach and the group’s ‘restaurants by restaurateurs’ philosophy.”
