VTIC congratulates Andrews government on re-election
The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) has congratulated the re-elected Labor Government and looks forward to promoting Victoria’s visitor economy and continue its growth.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, VTIC worked closely with the government in implementing programs and initiatives to assist industry in its recovery.
VTIC chief executive Felicia Mariani said this work will continue with Premier Daniel Andrews and his ministry as the visitor economy continues to experience unprecedented demand and the 2026 Regional Victoria Commonwealth Games draws nearer.
The visitor economy in Victoria has been a powerhouse for driving the economic future of the state, contributing $32.5 billion in spend and employing over 260,000 Victorians across the state prior to the pandemic.
Under the Visitor Economy Recovery and Reform Plan, ambitious targets have been set to reach $35 billion in annual visitor expenditure and employ 300,000 Victorians by June 2024.
“Our industry looks forward to working in partnership with the re-elected Labor Government to achieve these goals and create a positive future for Victorians,” Mariani said.
VTIC’s 2022 State Election campaign, #tourismmatters, outlined a five-point plan to create jobs and support businesses in the visitor economy.
Mariani said the plan was developed in consultation with tourism operators across the state and would continue to be advocated for in future policies across the five key themes:
- Demand driving response to a changing consumer
- Tackling the employment and skills crisis in tourism and the visitor economy
- Access and improving infrastructure in a new visitor economy
- Planning for the Commonwealth Games and beyond
- Create a 10-year blueprint to revitalise Greater Melbourne.
“Victoria’s visitor economy is in greater demand than ever before, and our continued success will depend on operators and regions accessing the staff and support they need,” Mariani said.
“We will be advocating for our members as we engage with the re-elected Victorian Government over the coming months and years.”
