Vanuatu drops pre-arrival COVID testing

The Vanuatu Tourism Office has announced that from 12 September visitors to Vanuatu no longer have to produce a negative COVID test before entering the country.

This change applies to all arrivals by air and sea and while visitors are encouraged to be fully vaccinated before travelling to the country, this is not mandatory. Once in Vanuatu, there is no quarantine or arrival testing required.

Any traveller who tests positive for COVID-19 or who develops symptoms of COVID-19 will need to isolate for 48 hours.

Air Vanuatu has resumed its services with five non-stop flights from Sydney, one direct service a week from Melbourne and three non-stop flights a week from Brisbane to Port Vila. Virgin Australia will also resume flights from Brisbane to Port Vila, up to five times a week from March 2023.

Vanuatu reopened its borders to international travellers for the first time on 1 July, with visitors now able to freely travel throughout the archipelago.

The people of Vanuatu welcomed the first Aussies to make the trip, with official events and activities organised at Sydney and Port Vila airports to mark the occasion.

Visitors boarding the flight in Sydney enjoyed festivities at the gate and were invited to take pictures within a Vanuatu-themed pop-up installation to mark the beginning of their trip.

Guests were also accompanied on the voyage by a VIP delegation including Vanuatu’s Prime Minister, the Honourable Bob Loughman Weibur.
