Why did Tom Cruise just charter two Hurtigruten ships?

Tom Cruise and his production company have chartered two Hurtigruten ships to finish shooting Mission: Impossible 7.

Why does one of the Western world’s most famous actors need two Norwegian expedition ships to finish his latest blockbuster, you might ask?

Apparently, it’s to protect actors and crew against COVID-19.

According to Forbes, Mission: Impossible 7 was among the first major movies to halt production due to the global pandemic, and now it’s resumed filming in Norway’s stunning coastal Møre og Romsdal district.

In short, the ships, the new 530-passenger MS Fridtjof Nansen and the 490-passenger MS Versteralen, have been chartered by Cruise and production company Truenorth to accommodate the cast and crew, creating a contained “bubble” to protect them from exposure to COVID-19.

Cruise has reportedly footed almost a million dollars of the bill himself.

Hurtigruten was the first cruise line to resume services after COVID-19 shut down the travel industry in March, but has since paused operations following an outbreak on one of its ships.

An investigation has since been carried out by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate to find out what went wrong.

The maritime authority has given Hurtigruten a three-month deadline to tighten its safety policy.
