A unicorn, alpacas and a father’s ashes: Hotel chain reveals the most bizarre things left at its properties

What do a pair of alpacas, a five-foot unicorn made of flowers and a father’s ashes have in common?

These three were among the most bizarre items left in Travelodge hotels last year, according to a company audit of its Brittish properties.

“With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 571 [properties] … we do get a range of interesting items left behind,” Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said.

“This year’s audit includes a pair of Alpacas called Ant & Dec, a 65-year-old luck Bonsai tree, an Aston Martin, a dissertation, a gingerbread village with residents, and a precious 20-year-old celebrity autograph book.”

According to Travelodge, all items left behind in its hotels that are no claimed “within three months” are donated to the British Heart Foundation, its nominated charity partner.

Here are some of the strangest things left behind at Travelodge’s hotels in 2019:

  • Gallon of water from Loch Ness
  • Jewelled wedding saree
  • Four-foot angel wings artwork
  • Bridal Louboutin Swarovski shoes
  • Deeds to a shop
  • Six-foot flower wall
  • A pair of artificial six-foot palm trees.
