REVEALED: The best cities for driving holidays

Driving in a new city is, at least for us, equal parts terrifying and quite special.

Whether you crave the bustle and bright lights or more peaceful, panoramic views, touring a city by car gives you a sense of freedom and independence.

On the other hand, adjusting to new road rules, driving on the wrong side of the road or even just missing a crucial turn can leave the most collected traveller rattled to say the least.

Wow your clients with your knowledge of overseas driving with this new research from DiscoverCar Hire, revealing the best cities to drive in across the globe.

The research, found by city driving ratings collected from 2599 tourist drivers, found that island driving is one of our favourite things to do with six of the 20 top ranking places being island destinations, including the Canary Islands, the Balearics, the Azores and Cyprus.

Country-wise, Italy topped the polls with seven of its cities achieving a satisfaction rating of 7.5 or higher out of ten, including Milan, Venice and Rome, tied with Spain, with mainland destinations such as Barcelona and Malaga appearing alongside its islands as firm customer favourites.

The overall favourite was Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, followed by Izmir in Turkey, Cairns in Australia, Kefalonia in Greece and Split in Croatia.
