EgyptAir voice recorder found but damaged

Manchester, United Kingdom - August 27, 2015: EgyptAir Boeing 737 narrow-body passenger plane (SU-GEB) taxiing on Manchester International Airport taxiway.

The Egyptian investigation committee for EgyptAir flight MS804 has reported the cockpit voice recorder has been found by search teams who were forced to salvage the device over several stages because it was damaged.

The voice recorder is being sent to investigators in Alexandria, meanwhile the search continues for flight data recorder.

Radar data indicates the plane swerved sharply before it spun 360 degrees and crashed into the Mediterranean Ocean.

On 19 May, EgyptAir flight MS804 crashed into the Mediterranean, killing all 66 people on board. Since then, search teams have been working against the clock to recover the black box flight recorders which are crucial to explaining what caused the Airbus A320 to crash.

The search continues for the all-important second black box, which contains the flight data recorder.

Vessels have yet to detect signals from that device but have identified the location of the main parts of the wreckage.
