G Adventures gets more adventurous

G Adventures gets more adventurous

G Adventures will get travellers more active with hiking, cycling, kayaking, surfing and snorkeling as it launches five new active adventures to its 2016 line-up.

Each Active style trip, featured in G Adventures’ newly released Active brochure, includes a mixture of different activities and often includes camping to provide a real insight into the natural landscapes that travellers from this region often seek out in an overseas trip.

The new trips include Bhutan Trekking, Cycle China, Japan Hike, Bike & Kayak and Patagonia Multisport.

The new trips come off the back of an increase in demand for the Lares Trek as a preferred option to the Inca Trail in Peru, with the company now offering the Lares Trek as an alternative to the Inca Trail on all trips to Machu Picchu.

The three-day Lares trek begins outside of Cuzco, Peru, for travellers who may be looking for an alternative way to reach Machu Picchu. The Lares Trek has fewer ascents and descents, but is at a higher altitude, and is often described as the much less discovered route.

“The scenery, no less awe-inspiring than its famous counterpart, takes travellers off the beaten path and much closer to the indigenous Quechua people,” explained Adrian Piotto, Managing Director for G Adventures Australia and New Zealand.

“Starting in Ollantaytambo trekkers make their way through the Lares valley on an undulating path that actually rises higher than the Inca Trail—its highest point reaching 4,750m 15,583 ft. The Lares trek offers opportunities for insight into rural Andean life as the trail itself passes through very remote mountain communities.”

Travellers on the Lares Trek also visit a number of social enterprises along the way and make use of a special campsite established by G Adventures’ not-for-profit Planeterra. The community-owned campsite features composting toilets, solar showers, and a solid-waste management system that’s the first of its kind in Peru.
