Virtuoso reveals travellers’ Dream Destinations, what’s trending

Australia has been ranked as the number one “Dream Destination” according to 5800 Virtuoso travellers who took part in its 2015 Travel Dreams Survey which also highlights travel trends for the year.

With 59% of those surveyed saying they expect to take 1-3 trips this year, 29% will take 4-6 trips and 12% will take 7 or more, Australia could indeed enjoy a sudden influx of high-end leisure travellers to its shores.

According to Virtuoso sales data, Australia is the fastest-growing destination for luxury travellers, with bookings are up 137% from the same time period last year. New Zealand wasn’t too far behind, coming in third.

Other mentions included Italy, which was ranked second, France fourth and despite recent economic-woes, Greece rounded off the top five. Ireland, the Caribbean, Fiji, England, and Antarctica completed the top 10.

On other factors surveyed, pinpointing their Top 10 Travel Pursuits, the travellers rated cultural/historical as most important at (42%) and clearly cruising is indeed booming coming in a close second (40%). Perhaps surprisingly, romantic getaways came in last at 15%.

The complete list included: Adventure/nature (37%), beach (31%), family (25%), food & wine (24%), river cruising (22%), city getaways (19%), relaxation/spa (16%), and romantic (15%).

However when it came to Trips of a Lifetime, Virtuoso travellers ranked European River / Canal Cruising as number one, followed by World Cruises.
