What day do you research travel?

What day do you research travel?

Suffering the Monday blues? Missing the weekend already? You’re not alone.

As it turns out, Monday is officially the day Aussies fill the post-weekend void with wanderlust, jumping online to research their next holiday.

New data from vouchercloud has found that travel daydreaming fuels most on a Monday, with 17% of all travel related searches falling on the first day of the week.

Almost half of all getaway search traffic takes place in the first half of the week, with another 16% of searches landing on Wednesday, proving travel is the ideal inspiration to help push past hump-day.

Research also shows that there is a steady decline in bookings as we approach winter, with holiday brands receiving half as much traffic in May as they did in January, an interesting trend considering so many Aussies love to chase their summer.

In fact, search traffic is down 14% month on month on average since January, showing the lust for travel fades as the sun starts to wane.

Surprisingly, despite the free time during the weekend, far fewer travel seekers do their searches on Saturday and Sunday, with trends showing a steady decline as the week progresses – a mere 23% of total searches taking place across the final two days of the week.

“It’s totally understandable that the beginning of the working week can simply prove too much for many of us,” vouchercloud Australia’s category manager Stephanie Marlow said.

“In spite of all the free time we get during the weekend, our research shows that it’s when we’re sat at our desk, or get home from a hard day at work, that our feet get itchy.”

“With bookings also peaking on a Wednesday, it’s good to see that people are putting the hump-day blues to good use and planning a trip away.

And although we completely understand the urge to avoid Monday work blues and plan our next escape, Monday holiday-hunters tend to be all talk, with the action coming in to play on Wednesday, taking 19% of total booking shares, compared to 15% on Monday.

The weekend proved even less likely, with just 20% of bookings across Saturday and Sunday, although Saturday tends to be the day people book the most extravagant holidays – could it be those afternoon wine sessions kicking in?

Whatever your motivation, we’re thrilled to see people are still holding out for their next adventure, and seeing as it’s Monday, why don’t you close the emails for a little while and daydream your way to another holiday?

We won’t tell!
