Take a ‘street view’ peek at Virgin’s Sydney lounge

Virgin Australia is taking its lounge to the interwebs, courtesy of good old Google.

The airline has joined forces with the internet giant to create an interactive tour of its Sydney Airport lounge, giving passengers a sneak peek at the lounge and its facilities long before they hit the airport.

According to Skift, the Street View tour gives budding travellers the chance to peruse through the lounge with just a tap of the mouse, before they’ve even committed to buying a ticket.

Virgin Australia’s head of public affairs Libby Armstrong said the new offering puts the airline ahead of the competition.

“Google Street View is an innovative technology platform and allowed just to partner with a market leader and show off the architectural design features that define the Lounge environment, and also allows the user to find out some of the finer lounge details which really set Virgin Australia apart,” she told Skift.

“We had someone from Google come in with a standard SLR camera. He had to take about 5 or 6 photos in each spot of the lounge you can click to, in 360 degrees. After the shoot, he went away and had to stitch them all together to create the walkthrough.”

And a few weeks later and Google had created the lounge tour, now available online.

The tour is highly detailed, and takes users so close that you can see what’s on offer at the buffet, as well as all the other facilities available.
