China Southern takes on new md

China Southern Airlines has announced the appointment of Louis Lu as Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand.

The appointment comes following a period of high growth for the airline in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Lu started his career with China Southern Airlines in 1992 in Guangzhou, China and most recently the positon of senior vice president the Americas with China Southern Airlines, and prior to that was country manager for China Southern Airlines in Malaysia.

Lu will be based in Sydney at the airline’s Regional Office, and will take responsibility for overall duties for the Australian and New Zealand region.

As the third largest airline in the world and the largest in Asia, China Southern Airlines has been expanded at a rapid rate from 10 million passengers in 1994 to 101 million in 2014.

China Southern Airlines began services to Australia in the year 1999 and presently offers direct flights on A330-200/300 aircraft to Sydney (14 per week), Melbourne (10 per week), Brisbane (five per week) and Perth (three times per week).

It also operates double daily services to Auckland on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

This year, China Southern Airlines plans to operate 53 weekly flights to Australia and New Zealand.
