Swiss Travel launches flexible new products
Kicking off on January 1, the Swiss Travel System launched a new product range, which aims to better cater to the changing needs of visitors to Switzerland.
As part of its marketing strategy, the company is offering shorter holiday stays, as well as tailoring to the need for increased travel flexibilities.
The first major change is the rebranding of the all-in-one Swiss Pass, which hasn’t changed much since it started 25 years ago.
The new changes include new validity dates of three, four, eight and 15 days, the ability to print the pass at home, and to continue to grant users unlimited travel on all public transport and access to 480 museums across the country.
The second change is the rename of the Swiss Flexi Pass to Swiss Travel Pass Flex, best for visitors seeking flexible travel dates.
The Swiss Travel Pass Flex will offer unlimited travel on all public transport on any three, four, eight or 15 selected days within one month.
A new Swiss Half Fare Card Combi offering 50% off travel by train, bus and boat and most mountain railways will, as of this year, replace the discontinued half price travel between free days offered on the old Swiss Flexi Pass.
This Combi card, however, is only valid for purchase in conjunction with a Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Transfer Ticket.
The final change to note for 2015 is the discontinuation of the Saver versions of the Swiss Pass and Swiss Flexi Pass.
Travellers under 26 years can now instead purchase the new Swiss Travel Pass Youth or Swiss Travel Pass Flex Youth at 15% off the adult ticket price.
Children under 16 continue to travel for free when accompanied by an adult on the Swiss Travel Pass.
Rail Europe manager Australasia Ingrid Kocijan said the new streamlined changes are more efficient at meeting the evolving needs of travellers.
“While an increasing number of Aussies and Kiwis are visiting Switzerland each year, their length of stay in Switzerland vary from a few days to a couple of weeks, so these new changes will see that their time in the country is spent even more cost effectively and in accordance to their travel preferences,” she said.
Agents are reminded that Rail Europe tickets are distributed by Rail Plus, Rail Tickets, CIT Holidays and Infinity Rail in Australia, and Rail Plus and Go Holidays in New Zealand.
