Augmented reality in travel arrives down under

By admin

Cox & Kings Australia have become the first travel company in the region to offer customers an ‘innovative’ new way to plan holidays using augmented reality technology.

Featured across its entire 2015 Tempo Holidays and Bentours brochures’ front covers, the locally developed technology allows travellers to view an “inspirational and aspirational” 90-second video on each destination via an augmented-reality app.

The company said the ease of using the app will enhance travellers’ research process and “may eventually step in as a virtual travel consultant”.

“Augmented reality immerses you in the real-world environment by connecting you to Tempo Holidays destinations and experiences,” Cox & Kings Australia chief executive officer Caroline Kennedy said.

“For a few minutes, travellers can immerse themselves in what they will experience when they take their dream holiday. You can travel the world without leaving home.”

To experience augmented reality, travellers will have to download the STELLAR AR app from the App Store or Google Play, then point their smartphone or tablet camera over front cover image on 2015 Tempo Holidays or Bentours brochures.

Tempo Holidays are offering a $50 travel voucher to use on tours for customers that download the app.

“This cutting-edge mobile interactive technology is the way of the future in the travel industry,” Kennedy said. “We know it will significantly enhance our customers’ planning and booking experience and so I encourage them to give it a try.”
