Hawaii to push all six islands

Hawaii to push all six islands
By admin

Hawaii Tourism has reported steep competition from other Pacific destinations Fiji and Bali.

“We really need to sell the value of Hawaii, those experiential aspects that you can’t get in these other destinations,” Galea said.

Australian arrivals to Hawaii are up 0.8% this year despite reduced airlift, with 60% of holidays to Hawaii booked through travel agents.

“Whilst that did decrease slightly from 2012 to 2013, it still remains so important to make sure that we train the travel trade face to face and develop online opportunities,” Hawaii Tourism country manager Ashlee Galea said.

The tourism board outlined plans to promote all six islands to the trade and consumer.

“We’re at a state where we have a mature market here in Australia so we are looking at honing in on the different islands,” Galea said.

While Australians are more likely to travel to other islands than other nationalities, there has been a slow-down.

“We need to ensure marketing programs highlighting the six destinations,” Galea said.

Brisbane will be a focus for the tourism board as Jetstar launches flights from December.

“We have so many air seats, over 60,000,” Galea said.

Half of the visitors to Hawaii are couples while families retain a 30% share of tourist arrivals.
