Travel plans on hold for dog owners: survey
By admin

DogVacay, the service connecting dog owners with pet sitters in their neighbourhood, has released its second annual State of US Pet Travel study.

DogVacay has found out why dog owners holiday less, and what concerns them most when leaving their pup behind.

We all know pets pose a problem when it comes to travel plans, and with 22 per cent of dog owners either delaying or skipping a vacation due to doggy devotion, travellers are missing out for the sake of their pups.

A massive 42 per cent of dog owners admitted it requires too much planning to accommodate both traveling and the dog, with 14 per cent revealing they even missed an important life event because of their pup.

Occasions missed included a spontaneous weekend getaway (69%), visiting friends (52%) and even a wedding (13%).

More than half of the dog owners surveyed said they didn’t trust kennels to adequately care for their dogs, while 46% found they simply worried too much while away, which impacted on their ability to relax and enjoy the trip.

DogVacay’s study has proved the age-old warning of having a pet. While it may be incredibly rewarding, holidaying certainly becomes a lot harder when there’s an extra family member to consider.
