Investments ready Brisbane for growth
By admin

The opportunities for Brisbane to grow its tourism industry are rapidly growing as the city steadily unveils a series of infrastructure improvements and new hotel investments.

Today, it emerged that a private Singaporean investor has acquired the 84-room Diamant Hotel in Brisbane – its first foray into Australia. That follows the recent announcements of a new hotel development at the Old Court Site and a new Art Series property.

The city has also seen the debut of the Four Points by Sheraton brand and will soon welcome SilverNeedle’s first ever Next Hotel. Newcomer Alpha Hotels will also open a newbuild property in the city’s Fortitude Valley area next year.

“There’s been quite a lot of new infrastructure growth in Brisbane over the last couple of years,” Brisbane Convention Bureau director Annabel Sullivan told media at Dreamtime earlier this week.

“It’s very exciting – for a while we struggled a bit with ‘no room at the inn’ so this does give us more opportunities.”

In addition to increased room supply, other new projects include the expansion of the convention centre and the new Royal Convention Centre which came online earlier this year.

The international airport is also set to undergo a massive $45 million overhaul for completion in mid-2015 with “thought leader” Tyler Brul√©, founder of Monocle and Wallpaper magazines, leading its creative direction.

“The aim is to reflect the Brisbane lifestyle and what is unique about Brisbane,” Sullivan said.

It will feature green spaces and outdoor areas where possible with timber and decking used throughout. It will also be well stocked with food and wine in a bid to showcase some of the local produce.
