Tourism operators are "getting it right", says TTF

The Australian industry is providing products and experiences that are resonating with the local market as domestic visitor nights and spending continue to rise, according to the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF).

Latest analysis of figures show overnight trips and nights in the year to December climbed 4.1% and 2.8% respectively with spending rising 4.6%.

TTF chief executive Ken Morrison said it was crucial that state governments provide sufficient funding to ensure the growth does not stagnate.

“The National Visitor Survey shows that more Australians are exploring their own backyard, which means the industry is getting it right in terms of the products and experiences it is offering consumers,” he said.

“It is vital that governments around the country provide appropriate funding for tourism agencies to ensure this growth is maintained and to give them certainty to enter into long term partnerships to promote their destinations at home and abroad.”

The NVS for the year ending September showed Australians took 76 million overnight trips and spent 283.5 million nights away from home. Just under half were for holiday travel.
