United upgrades to 777s on Australian routes
By admin

Economy class passenger on United Airlines flights between Australia and the US will finally get seat back entertainment next year when the carrier’s 747s are replaced with smaller Boeing 777 aircraft.

United will deploy the 777 on its daily flights from Sydney and Melbourne to San Francisco and Los Angeles from April 1.

The 777 has 269 seats, with eight in first class, 40 in business, 117 in economy plus and 104 in economy. All seats will have personal TVs, on demand inflight entertainment and power outlets.

First and business class cabins will feature flat beds while wi-fi will also be available on long haul international flights.

The switch to 777 aircraft will see a significant reduction in capacity. United's 747-400s have 374 seats with 12 in first, 52 in business, 70 in economy plus and 240 in economy.

“The 777 will be the ideal aircraft for our Australia routes in terms of both capacity and customer amenities,” vice president Atlantic and Pacific sales James Mueller said. “Our trans-Pacific service from Sydney and Melbourne are an important part of United’s global route network and we look forward to offering our customers a full range of inflight products and services on the 777.”
