REVIEW: Here’s what makes Atlantis Bahamas great for mega resort lovers

Last year, the mega resort Atlantis hosted royalty when Prince William and Princess Katherine paid a visit and it has been known to host other A-Listers such as Oprah, The Jonas Brothers and Kim Kardashian.

Now, while we may not be of the likes of the aforementioned celebrities, Travel Weekly thought we should drop in to see what all the fuss is and see how appealing this resort may be to the average Aussie.

So, below is our verdict on this ocean-themed resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

The location

Nestled in the capital of Nassau, this resort is surrounded by some of the finest cuisine the Bahamas has to offer. During Travel Weekly’s stay one of the highlights was venturing out and enjoyed the best Conch fritters at the Docks, (the local Bahamas delicacy of fresh Conch, similar to crab, deep fried with onion garlic and capsicum) where the locals gather to eat, drink and dance.

While the resort is surrounded by incredible spots to venture to, Atlantis a destination in-and-of itself. It’s a kind of Disney Land, only much bigger and with more than its fair share of activity for adults to keep all ages happy. This is why some guests go to Atlantis, year after year, and never leave the resort, one of the staff tells us amusingly, but it is also understandable.

The Stay

Atlantis is a city within the city, featuring the world’s largest open-air marine environment, the Caribbean’s largest water park and casino, multiple hotels, lagoons, waterfalls, a mega-yacht marina and a championship golf course.

The Atlantis Resort includes five hotels — The Cove, The Royal, The Reef, The Coral, and the Harborside Resort and they all cater for different clientele. The Cove is the most refined option and private, so pool access is only for others at the Cove, and this is where the Royals stayed. We stayed at the Royal, home to the Casino and close by all the thrill-seeking adventures of the water parks. The Coral is the more budget friendly option, so there really is something for everyone.

Rooms

3,805 rooms! That’s right and the interestingly it has something for everyone, from entry level family rooms, to luxurious penthouses fit for royalty. We stayed at the Royal, which has been recently renovated and the rooms are HUGE.

A colleague who also visited joked that her room was bigger than her two bedroom apartment in Bondi, and she was right!

Food

Atlantis has 21 restaurants serving everything from Japanese to Caribbean cuisine. 12 of these have kids’ menus that are ideal for quick snacks or casual meals. For the adults, there are 19 bars and lounges at Atlantis.

For your coffee loving clients, be warned, it is in short supply here, but there is a coffee house in the Marina village where there is an actual coffee machine and baristas who understand what a macchiato is.

Special extras

  • Though not an all-inclusive resort, a stay at Atlantis includes free access to the water park, pools, beaches, marine habits, health club and movie theatre.
  • There are 11 swimming areas, 11 water slides, and two river rides, which one of the guests described to us as “a two hour treat with a Pina Colada in hand.”

Overall Impression

There really is something for everyone and for Australians want to experience a mega resort, it is a fun experience. For those craving a thrill-seeking, fun escape from the world on a massive scale., Atlantis Bahamas is the place to go.
