Emergency services attend high speed landing for Air NZ flight arriving in Christchurch

Emergency services attended Christchurch International Airport last night as an Air New Zealand aircraft reported an issue with hydraulics.

Flight NZ8763 from New Plymouth to Christchurch “had an issue with the hydraulics which meant that the pilots were unable to open the flaps for landing,” the airline confirmed in a statement.

“This meant the aircraft would land at a higher speed than usual, so emergency services met the aircraft as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely at Christchurch Airport not long ago,” spokesperson told Travel Weekly moments after the incident took place.

The aircraft had circled the general Christchurch area a number of times before the landing took place.

The aircraft involved was a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300.

No one was injured in the incident, and all passengers continued their journeys as planned.
