AI generated postcard stamps reveal Australia’s obsession with beer and the U.K’s love of tea

InsureandGo, a travel insurance company has crunched the numbers and revealed that over 60 per cent of travellers don’t send a postcard whilst away, and has used AI to generate a collection of stamps to remind people of how great a postcard can be!

To encourage and inspire travellers to think about sending a postcard the next time they are on holiday, InsureandGo has used AI to create a collection of charming, beautiful and sometimes amusing stamps that sum up travellers’ thoughts and perceptions about 20 countries worldwide.

The new stamp designs were created by asking travellers what thethink of when picturing various countries, covering aspects such as the food, landscapes, people and animals.

These thoughts were then fed into the AI image generator Midjourney, and the results are a fascinating insight into how countries are perceived around the world

Many of the stamps include famous drinks from the countries they are depicting, such as Australia’s beloved beer, UK’s English breakfast tea, and Italy’s Tuscan wine.

Animals also play a big part in the designs, with China’s adorable national animal, the panda, featuring prominently within their stamp drinking a cup of Chinese tea and Thailand’s elephants marching across a sandy beach shown in the Thai stamp. Not all the animals are so cute however, Australia’s famous creepy crawlies make an appearance on their stamp.

A country’s famed gastronomy and produce are featured in many of the stamps, from France’s highly regarded wine to Mexico’s tacos and limes and, amusingly, the UK’s love of beige food and baked beans, all reflected in the nation’s stamp.

“In an age of super-fast Wi-Fi being available in many places when we’re on holiday, it’s easy to forget the delight that a humble postcard can bring to our friends and family,” CEO, InsureandGo, Chris Rolland, said.

“It’s heartening to see from our research that receiving a postcard can still bring such positive emotions such as happiness and love, so we hope our fun AI creations remind people how posting something while you’re abroad can bring a little bit of the holiday joy back home.”
