Search begins for Air NZ GM
By admin

Air New Zealand has begun its search for an Australia general manager with the carrier anxious to appoint an experienced executive with existing local trade relationships.

While the airline is also looking internally – Air NZ has traditionally promoted from within – it has initiated an in-market search for a replacement for Cam Wallace, who is taking up an expanded Auckland-based role with the carrier at the end of the month.

"We are looking for someone with aviation or a travel industry background who can take the business to the next level," Wallace said. "Australia is 23% or 24% of our passengers so we are trying to get some continuity.

"What I have found is that this is a different, separate and autonomous market and it needs to be treated that way so ideally we need someone who doesn't have to start afresh and develop all these new relationships."

The carrier said it expects to begin interviewing at the end of January.
