Contiki has recruited from outside the industry as it named a new Australia managing director with no travel experience.

Katrina Barry will join the youth brand on January 13, with The Travel Corporation Australia chief executive John Weeks insisting she has “excellent credentials”.

Barry comes from a sales, marketing and brand background and held senior roles with business consultancy McKinsey & Company, The Virgin Group, and most recently BT Financial Group.

Contiki global brand director Alastair Campbell said: “Katrina has proven outstanding results in brand leadership, sales and marketing, particularly in the digital space.”

Weeks said the appointment followed an extensive search.

“She has excellent credentials for this position with her impressive leadership skills and extensive global sales and marketing expertise,” he said.

Barry replaces Fiona Hunt who is heading up Adventure World.
