Air NZ names new chairman
By admin

Air New Zealand has revealed Tony Carter of Fisher and Paykel Healthcare as its new chairman, to take the reigns  from John Palmer.

The appointment marks the end of a two-year process which began when Palmer revealed his intention to stand down after a final term on the airline's board.

Palmer has held the role since 2001 with Air New Zealand paying tribute to his "pivotal role" in the airline's revitalisation.

"I committed to the board last year that I would see through the transition to a new chief executive officer," Palmer said. "Now that Christopher Luxon and his management team are off to a flying start delivering our Go Beyond plan, I am confident I will leave the business in tremendous shape."

He highlighted Carter's background and track record as strengths which would bring "great value" to the board table.

Meanwhile, Carter said he felt privileged to take on the position.

"I look forward to working with chief executive officer Christopher Luxon and his world class management team as the airline goes on this next exciting phase of its journey," he said.

Carter will become chairman after the annual shareholders' meeting on September 27, with Palmer to oversee the transition until early next year.
