Air NZ confirms 787-9 destinations
By admin

Air New Zealand has confirmed that Shanghai, Tokyo, Perth Honolulu and Papeete will be the first destinations for its 787-9 when the aircraft arrives mid next year.

The carrier is the launch customer for the aircraft, which chief executive Christopher Luxon described as a “game changer”.

Air NZ has 10 of the Dreamliners on order.

“This modern flexible fuel efficient aircraft will not only replace our current fleet of Boeing 767s, it also represents a significant growth opportunity for our business and opens up the prospect of expanding our Pacific Rim footprint,” Luxon said.

The addition of the 787-9 will also provide “a consistent product experience” across its long haul fleet with the Skycouch – a row of three seats that converts into sofa-style seating – available on routes to Asia for the first time.

The first 787-9, a slightly larger version of the 787-8 which is already in service, is due to roll off the production line in Seattle next month.
