From a seedlist of over 100 of the world’s most visited heritage sites, Betway has revealed the most Instagrammed locations to inspire your summer travels.

When a location is recognised as a World Heritage site, it marks it as a site of great cultural value, but which sites are the most popular of all, and which should you be adding to your bucket list?

With 2.4 million hashtags, the Taj Mahal ranks as the most Instagrammed cultural World Heritage Site. Built in the 17th century, the iconic mausoleum is a must see for travellers venturing to the East.

The beautiful palace of Versailles comes in second place with 2.3 million Instagram hashtags, the Statue of Liberty, a globally recognised symbol of freedom, comes in third place with almost 2.3 million hashtags.

With almost 4.3 million hashtags, it might not come as a surprise that the Grand Canyon is the most Instagrammed natural World Heritage site in the world. Attracting 4.73 million visitors in 2022, people from all over the world travel to see this popular geological phenomenon.

The Amalfi Coast ranked in second place with 3.7 million hashtags on Instagram, followed by Yosemite National Park with 3.4 million hashtags.

The United States is revealed to be the most popular place for seeing natural wonders with four of the top 10 most Instagrammed natural World Heritage sites being location in the nation while Istanbul is the most Instagrammed World Heritage city with over 124 million hashtags.

Analysing the most popular cities on Instagram with World Heritage status, Istanbul is the most Instagrammed of all with 124.3 million hashtags, Istanbul is reflective of many rich cultural influences and must-see attractions such as the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.

Rome ranked second, home to iconic sites like the Vatican City and the Colosseum with 29.5 million hashtags and Prague rounded out the top three with 18.5 million.
