Two different Qantas aircraft were forced to divert on Sunday night, one over the Pacific Ocean.

QF93 from Melbourne to Los Angeles diverted to Nadi in Fiji about 3 and a half hours into the flight.

Qantas confirmed this was due to a medical issue with a passenger. The flight departed for Los Angeles about 90 minutes later.

Meanwhile, QF1798 from Brisbane to Rockhampton returned to Brisbane 30 minutes after departure.

The cabin crew reported an unusual smell in the galley area of the aircraft.

“Crew were assessed by ambulance officers on arrival in Brisbane and two were taken to hospital for further medical checks. They were released last night,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

No passengers were affected but did have their departure to Rockhampton delayed until Monday morning.

An Air New Zealand flight, NZ99 from Auckland to Tokyo also turned back as it flew over Vanuatu.
