voco Hotels gets crafty with Pinot & Picasso in the name of sustainable travel

voco hotels has expanded its sustainability initiatives through a crafty partnership with Pinot & Picasso.

The luxury IHG brand will introduce a sustainably inspired paint-and-sip experience for guests across five of its Australia and New Zealand locations alongside a ‘Tread Lightly’ upcycled art guide created by Australian environmental artist, Dr John Dahlsen, that shares tips for eco-conscious travellers.

To mark the announcement, the brand is further showing its commitment to its ‘Tread Lightly’ philosophy by partnering with Dr Dahlsen to create an upcycled artwork on voco linen which is 100 per cent Better Cotton Initiative approved.

The artwork will be showcased in the voco Melbourne Central lobby, greeting guests as they check-in.

Dr Dahlsen said the work has the potential to act as a constant reminder to tread lightly on the planet.

“This work shares a positive message about beauty and the aesthetic experience and offers examples of waste recycling and reuse,” he said about the inspiration behind his piece.

voco hotels is also donating a series of handmade sustainable canvases, made from the same voco linen, to participating Pinot & Picasso studios, so customers can request to swap their regular canvas for something more sustainable.

Guests can get involved by booking an exclusive Sustainable Paint & Sip package which will include:

  • Overnight accommodation for two guests
  • Complimentary upgrade to a premium room
  • Two complimentary tickets to their choice of Pinot & Picasso studio in Australia and New Zealand
  • Two voco linen canvases to take to the Pinot & Picasso studio when attending the Pinot & Picasso paint and sip experience
  • A complimentary barista coffee or voco cocktail – including a zero-proof option – to be enjoyed at the hotel bar
  • QR code with tips and inspiration from artist Dr Dahlsen on creating upcycled art

The guest packages are available now across voco Melbourne Central, voco Kirkton Park Hunter Valley, voco Brisbane City Centre, voco Gold Coast and voco Auckland City Centre.

“Eco-conscious hospitality lies at the heart of the voco hotels brand and we are continuously working with our partners and communities around us to introduce innovative sustainability initiatives as part of our step-by-step mantra to tread lightly,” said Dean Jones, IHG’s regional VP of commercial.

“Whether partnering with Wyld Bikes earlier this year, growing eco-conscious gardens, or maximising energy use, all initiatives have one single goal in mind: to not only ease our footprint on the planet as we grow but help inspire our guests to tread lightly with voco, too.”

Other sustainability initiatives at voco hotels include sustainable bedding made from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles, reducing waste by 80 per cent by replacing bathroom miniature amenities with large refillable bottles, aerated shower heads, swapping plastic water bottles with glass water bottles wherever possible, using biodegradable straws and more.
