Fowl plot: Traveller attempts to smuggle gun through airport via chicken

US transport officials have poked fun at a traveller who attempted to smuggle a gun through a US airport inside a raw chicken.

The salmonella-causing plot was discovered by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport. The weapon, which was wrapped in paper packaging and stuffed in the bird, was discovered by security officials before boarding.

TSA poked fun at the smuggling attempt in an Instagram post, describing the scheme as not “even half-baked”.

It has not been revealed who attempted to smuggle the weapon, but images uploaded to social media show officials examining the bird inside the airport screening area.

With Thanksgiving approaching in the US, the TSA leaned heavily into festive puns with its post, joking that its officers “are always working around the cluck to keep you safe.”

“The plot chickens as we barrel our way closer to Thanksgiving,” the post read.

“We hate to beak it to you here, but stuffing a firearm in your holiday bird for travel is just a baste of time.

“This idea wasn’t even half-baked; it was raw, greasy, and obviously unsupervised. The only roast happening here is this poor packing choice!

“Feather you like it or not, there are rules for travelling with guns and ammunition,” the TSA concluded.

Firearms are not banned on US airlines but they must be carried in checked baggage, unloaded and placed in a locked hard-sided container.

The TSA said it had seized a record number of firearms from passengers at airports. Approximately 85 per cent of those confiscated were loaded, according to the agency.
