REVIEW: Nobu Hotel Santorini flourishes in the beauty of the Greek Islands

Nobu Hospitality’s first hotel in Greece is situated on the Northwest coast of Santorini, far enough away from the hustling Insta-worthy people and with a view to rival any sunset gazing spot in the archipelago.

First Impression/Look and Feel on Arrival

Nobu Hospitality was founded in 1994 by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, and has since expanded to 31 hotels globally open and in development. Upon arrival at the brand’s latest opening, Nobu Hotel Santorini, we were welcomed with an oshibori ritual, along with a welcome drink, a nod to the brand’s Japanese roots.

The design of the building flows seamlessly and the first thing you notice is the stunning pool at the entrance.

After a long flight, there is always something relaxing about a beautifully designed infinity pool area isn’t there?

The entrance welcomes guests with its cool exteriors that perfectly complement a hot and humid Santorini day. The design incorporates a Greek island classic white stone exterior with a Nobu touch of Japanese minimalism. The design is smattered with world class and modern hotel facilities that suit any traveller without one imposing on the other. The simple lines are given an exotic touch with local art and design.

Location

The hotel is situated near Imerovigli, a small village known as the balcony of the Aegean due to its position at the highest point of the Caldera cliffs, 300 metres above sea level The setting is within a short distance from the island’s most famous towns and villages as well as Santorini Airport, 9 km away.

The Rooms

Does the bed have a flat sheet? Yes!

Flat sheets are almost always missing in hotels these, and they are a must.

Each room has an exclusive Nobu bed with a Simmons Island Bouvet mattress. Natura Bisse bathroom amenities are placed in the expansive bathrooms, and each of the 25 gorgeous rooms and suites are designed in Nobu’s signature minimalist style.

Drinking and Dining

The first Nobu Restaurant in Greece offers iconic dishes alongside innovative takes on classic Greek favourites. We enjoyed Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalepeno, Black Cod Miso, Nobu Tacos and Wagyu Dumplings, all mouth watering and delicious with a vista overlooking the famous Santorini sunset.

Verdict

Travellers know that the first impression is important and the quality of the room and beds are critical. Nobu ticks all those boxes.

The pool was superb and while being away from home can be hard, being welcomed into an oasis such as the Nobu makes it all worthwhile. Travellers can expect sophisticated and well-considered art and design aesthetics and well-appointed stylish rooms as well as the signature fine dining we have come to expect from the Nobu Hospitality group.
