The Cook Islands drop all remaining COVID travel restrictions

The Cook Islands has dropped the last of its COVID restrictions for inbound travellers with the removal of all COVID vaccination requirements.

Announcing the decision, Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown described the removal as another step to reclaiming what COVID-19 took away.

“The removal of these final restrictions means that, as a country, we are sending a signal to the world that we are serious about getting back to business and we want our people to live normal lives without unnecessary government restrictions,” Brown said.

Graeme West, Cook Islands Tourism Corporation GM Australasia, said it was fantastic news for the country’s tourism industry, which was vital to the economy and had suffered greatly during the pandemic.

He said the announcement meant it was immediately back to pre-COVID normality in relation to holidaying in the Cooks and that extra flights from late October had been added to satisfy the strong demand from visitors from both New Zealand and Australia.

“Now is the time to book if you want to travel to our island paradise in the next six months. Rarotonga and Aitutaki are looking stunning, and Cook Islanders are waiting with their usual warm welcome for all our visitors.”
