Game of Thrones studio tour and To Be Irish programme launched by Tourism Ireland

Tourism Ireland has announced the official Game of Thrones (GoT) studio tour and the To Be Irish At Christmas 2021 programme to connect the Irish diaspora this holiday season.

The GoT studio tour is set to open on the 4th February 2022 and is located at the original filming location at Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.

Fans can explore the heart of Westeros and see the original props, costumes, set pieces and behind the scenes imagery from the hit series.

The 110,000-square-foot interactive experience will allow die-hard fans the closest experience they can get to living the real lives of the GoT characters.

Senior vice president of Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment, Peter van Roden, is thrilled to bring the series to the fans.

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening the doors to the first-ever Game of Thrones Studio Tour at Linen Mill Studios,” he said.

“Knowing you are in the very same spot where some of the series’ most memorable moments were filmed is an incredible feeling and we know fans of the franchise will feel the same when they see the rich detail in the sets, costumes and props up close and personal.”

Alongside the GoT studio tour, Tourism Ireland’s To Be Irish At Christmas 2021 programme is launching this Christmas.

The 16-day programme runs from the 8th to the 23rd of December and celebrates the special connections between the Irish at home and abroad, despite the impact of the pandemic.

The programme is built around an online platform and features more than 140 in-person, hybrid, and online events from around the world.

It aims to engage with the 70 million strong diaspora and their family and friends in Ireland to share traditional and new Christmas celebrations.

Commenting on the celebrations was Irelands minister of state for overseas development aid and diaspora Colm Brophy.

“I am delighted to announce that To Be Irish returns this Christmas bigger and better than before,” he said.

“This Christmas will mark the very first opportunity that many of our diaspora are able to return home since the pandemic began.

ToBeIrish.ie has been developed for them and for those who will spend Christmas away from us, providing an opportunity to share their experiences and hopes of Christmas past and present.

“To be Irish is about Ireland reaching out to our diaspora at one of the most important times of the year and welcoming them in. It’s an exciting opportunity to engage with our diaspora wherever they are and celebrate the best of the Irish Christmas that we treasure,” said Brophy.

For the Irish in Australia there will be a Christmas eve dinner in Brisbane for the Irish community who are unable to travel home, alongside other celebrations all over the world.

Participants can experience Irish events, traditions and Christmas culture via the programme’s website HERE.
