“Welcome to Perth”: The cheeky rooftop sign greeting flyers into Sydney

We love a good prank here at Travel Weekly, and this one is right up there on our ‘best of’ list.

Three months ago, Sydneysider Brad Heasman quietly orchestrated a very cheeky paint job “for a bit of a laugh” on the rooftop of a building he owns in the inner-city suburb of Sydenham, according to Traveller.

It turns out that Heasman already had some local painters doing work on one of his properties, and took the opportunity to utilise their talents by emblazoning the words “Welcome to Perth” on the rooftop.

Heasman told Traveller it would be hard for visitors touching down in the NSW capital to miss the cheeky greeting, as it’s painted in “proper road paint”.

He also revealed to the Nine-owned publication he gained inspiration for the prank from artist Mark Gubbins, who has been welcoming air travellers arriving in Milwaukee with a sign that says “Welcome to Cleveland” on top of his house for 40 years.

A pic of Heasman’s prank has made its way onto Reddit after originally being shared in a Facebook group called Frequent Flyers Australia, and is generating plenty of feedback.
