Qantas and Virgin announce new Aussie routes

Adelaide, Australia - March 21, 2016: Planes from domestic air industry competitors and rivals Qantas and Virgin, coming and going from Adelaide airport.

Qantas and Virgin have both added to their local offerings with a range of new routes, reintroductions and expanded services.

Qantas has introduced a new route between Sydney and Launceston for the summer holidays following the easing of border restrictions between New South Wales and Tasmania.

The national carrier is also restarting flights between Hobart and Sydney, with 11 return services per week from 6 November 2020.

This follows two other new routes Qantas has launched to Tasmania in response to demand – Brisbane-Hobart with Qantas and Gold Coast-Hobart with Jetstar.

To celebrate the new route, the airline is offering special fares starting from $149 one way, available for sale until Friday 30 October, unless sold out prior.

Meanwhile, Virgin will introduce two regional services and expand frequencies to key holiday destinations and South Australia ahead of the summer holidays.

The airline will reintroduce five-times weekly services between Brisbane-Emerald from 23 November and twice-weekly services between Brisbane-Alice Springs from 3 November.

It will also increase frequencies to destinations like Ballina, Hamilton Islands, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Flights between Brisbane and Hamilton Island will be upped to 10 services per week from 9 November, Brisbane and Adelaide will get up to three daily services from 16 November, Sydney and Ballina will receive eight services per week from 9 November, and Sydney and Adelaide will have up to three services daily from 16 November.
