Europe’s biggest airline posts spoof job ad attacking Irish government’s travel restrictions

looking for new job on internet ads

Ryanair has taken aim at the Irish government over its handling of international travel restrictions by posting a mock job ad on its website.

The job ad calls for a high school student to compile “Ireland’s Green List on a weekly basis”.

The Green List is the list of countries that are allowed to arrive in Ireland without self-isolating for 14 days.

According to Ireland’s government website, on 15 September the government announced the list will now be updated weekly, and to be included on the list, a country must have gone 14-days with a number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of 25 or less, based on the latest data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Since then, the number of countries on the list has gone from 10 to four.

Now only those coming from Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Liechtenstein will be able to arrive in Ireland without having to quarantine for 14 days.

“We have been exclusively retained by the Irish government in their search for an Inter Cert/Transition Year Student who will have sole responsibility for compiling Ireland’s Green list on a weekly basis,” the ad on Ryanair’s website read.

The job responsibilities listed suggests candidates will need to compile the Green List based on a series of games, including bingo, darts, snap, pin the tail on the donkey (or in this case, country), Scrabble, charades and the lottery.

“You will also be responsible for ensuring that the Dail Bar is sufficiently stocked with Guinness (Beamish) nuts and it is kept clean and tidy,” the ad continues.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to join an organisation where you will be given responsibility from day one and your actions will have a big influence on travel for our citizens and the wider economy.

“No prior experience is required and preference will be given to applicants who have attention to detail and are very good at analyzing data, this is something we are lacking in the team at the moment.”

The ad has since been taken down, but The Irish Post managed to snap a screenshot of it, which you can view here.

At the start of September, Ryanair threatened to leave Ireland if the unless the Green List is removed.

“We haven’t heard anything. And now we’re going into the winter and we’re going to have to move that capacity out of Ireland. You can’t do business with a 14-day quarantine,” Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said, according to the Irish Post.

The airline has previously insisted the UK, the US and Germany be added to the list.
