The death toll of the California wildfires has climbed to 51, as Camp fire in the north becomes the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history.

Six more bodies were found in the northern Californian town of Paradise last night, and another was found in the south as the Woolsey fire continues to burn.

Fairfax reports the two major fire fronts have been blazing for almost six days, covering almost 100,000 hectares of ground, destroying more than 9000 structures and forcing around a quarter of a million people to evacuate.

Authorities have confirmed that Camp fire, which has claimed 48 lives so far, is now 35 per cent contained, while the Woolsey fire, which is the largest fire in southern California and has claimed three, is 47 per cent contained.
