This hotel will reward you for putting down your phone

Need a digital detox? This hotel may be perfect.

Among a number of other US hotels, Wyndham Grand has started offering extra perks to those willing to lock their phones away.

The average guest checks their phone every 12 minutes on holiday – with 53 per cent never unplugging or reducing their phone usage at all whilst on a trip.

The hotel group has partnered with Yondr, a company that promotes a digital detox with a phone case that locks. Wyndham Grand is the first hotel brand to partner with Yondr, according to Lonely Planet.

To use the Yondr program, all you have to do is check in with the staff at the restaurant or pool, pick up your Yondr case and go about your day. Your phone will stay in your possession – but you won’t be able to use it until you go to the unlocking station.

Try being tempted to use your phone when it’s literally locked in a box.

This magic invention makes the pools and restaurants at five Wyndham Grand hotels phone-free zones, making relaxing on holiday, as well as being present, easier than ever.

And by putting your phone away you can also score yourself some extra (free) perks!

Until 12 November, guests at the five selected Wynham Grand properties can opt into going phone-free and score themselves special perks, prizes and amenities in return.

Think delicious off-menu treats, exclusive pool floats and the chance to win 75,000 Wyndham Rewards points. Those points can later be redeemed for a vacation, BTW. So basically, putting your phone down and enjoying your holiday could earn you another holiday!

The offer is available at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort in Florida; Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach Resort in Florida; Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront in Illinois; The Mills House, a Wyndham Grand Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina; and Hotel Galvez & Spa, a Wyndham Grand Hotel in Galveston, Texas.
