The Grand Hyatt is Melbourne’s very first five-star hotel and has been cutting a majestic figure on the city’s skyline since 1986.

Located on Collins street in a hub of chic shops and fine eateries, the perfect spot to explore the city – Although our room was so lovely we never wanted to leave!

Aesthetic 8.5/10

Walking into the foyer of the Grand Hyatt feels like teleporting to New York City, beaded sculptures stream down from an impossibly high ceiling as a waterfall feature cascades into the lobby. In all honesty, we might have been underdressed!

Old world glamour blends seamlessly with modern elements, where Italian marble staircases meet quirky carpets and angular light fixtures change shape on every floor.

Soft lighting greets you in the adjacent Bistro Bar against a colour scheme of warm brown hues. The burgundy leather arm chairs evoking a feeling of a lush den you might like to curl up in with a nice glass of red.

The Room 9/10

We were lucky enough to stay in a Grand King Suite with multiple living spaces, and a glorious view. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase a panoramic scene of the eclectic buildings of Melbourne’s CBD. Giving the sense of being at once in the very heart of the city and yet pleasantly removed.

Each of the 550 guestrooms at the Grand Hyatt offers a custom king-size bed with Egyptian cotton linen, an Italian marble bathtub and walk-in shower. If that isn’t luxury we’re not sure what is.

We even had a peek into the Diplomatic and Ambassador suites, which you could feel comfortable recommending to even the most VIP of clients. These rooms are the epitome of modern opulence, with fully serviced kitchens and a spa bath overlooking the Yarra River there’s something to please even the most discerning of travellers.

Luxury Feature – The Grand Club Lounge

Available exclusively to Grand Cub Suite members and situated on the 31st floor, the Grand Club Lounge was very recently refurbished and is the perfect place to sip your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail.

Tea and coffee are available all day from 7 am, as well as a continental breakfast. In the evenings you can watch the city light up and enjoy complimentary canapés and drinks, which are served from 6 pm every evening.

Facilities 9/10

Boasting the largest hotel gym in the southern hemisphere dubbed City Club, a whole floor is dedicated to this fully serviced gym. Complete with heated pool, sauna, steam room, and the most elegant changing rooms you ever did see.

In true Melbourne style the rooftop is not wasted and features an open-air tennis court and basketball court, you can even practice your golf swing up there! Just be careful where you hit those balls.

Food & Service 9/10

The breakfast buffet has been awarded first place three times by Gourmet Traveller and after experiencing it first hand it’s easy to see why.

The open plan kitchen lets you greet the chefs as they sauté mushrooms and rashers of bacon sizzle before your eyes.  Waffles and pancakes are also made to order, throw in the juice bar and we’ve died and gone to breakfast heaven.

Even with hotel occupancy at 95 per cent the dining room in the main lobby is buzzing but not overwhelming and the floor staff manage the dining experience perfectly.

Overall 9/10

There’s a sense of escapism about a stay in the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, the aesthetic transports you to a different era and the lofty views make you feel as if you’re removed from the outside world, in the best way possible.

If you’re looking to really immerse yourself in a hotel experience then the Grand Hyatt is the one, what more could you expect from a place that’s been providing luxury since 1986.
