Thousands stranded by tech glitch at Sydney Airport

Thousands of passengers at Sydney Airport faced huge delays after a technical glitch threw two terminals into chaos.

According to the ABC, the technical issue was affecting passenger processing at the T1 International and T2 Domestic terminals up until about 8:30 am.

T3, the other domestic terminal, operated by Qantas was not affected, however, News.com reports there may be a knock-on effect for other airports around Australia.

The ques got so bad, passengers were urged to “avoid” the terminals.

Sally Fielke, general manager of corporate affairs at the airport told the ABC the problem mainly affected outbound flights.

“We are experiencing outbound delays while we fix this technical issue which we’re working to rectify as quickly as we can,” she said.

“We will start some manual processing so flights can start to move.”

“We know this is stressful … please check with your airline but we do expect delays.”

The airport said in a statement the glitch affected systems including their CCTV.

“The safety and security of our passengers is our number one priority and we are pleased to say that all systems are operating as normal,” the statement said.

“Our priority now is to ensure all passengers are safely on their way.”

Meanwhile, many travellers took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
