Celebrity Chef Rick Stein to open second Aussie hotel

Celebrity Chef Rick Stein to open second Aussie hotel

British celebrity chef and TV personality, Rick Stein is set to open his second boutique Australian hotel in Port Stephens later this year.

Meanwhile, we’re set to buy our second coffee of the day after spilling the first on our last clean shirt.

Stein’s Bannisters hotel chain will open an 80-room hotel on the former Salamander Shores beachfront site at Soldiers Point, with four luxury suites and a penthouse.

Fifty of the rooms will come with bay views over the Karuah River and vistas of forest and bushland.

Bannisters Port Stephens has the potential to make the area a dining destination, as with Mollymook’s Bannisters by the Sea.

The new hotel will feature a “pizza hub” and a formal signature restaurant where Stein will work closely with head chef Michell Turner on a menu including local king prawns, Yellowfin bream, flathead, calamari, school whiting and oysters.

To be honest, you had us at “pizza hub”

“The abundance of top-quality seafood is a massive attraction,” Stein has said in an official statement, “as is the proximity to the Hunter Valley’s wineries.”

We take back our last comment, you had us at wineries.

    1. Like Rick I am from the West Country and have eaten at two of his Cornish restaurants – Padstow and Falmouth. I haven’t been at all impressed with his fish and chips and in May 2017 at Falmouth I was served soggy tasteless chips and overcooked fish. It was about the worst I have ever had. But most surprising was the sign over the restaurant door – “All our fried food is cooked in beef dripping.” Wow! As a kid I loved beef dripping on bread but fish and chips cooked in beef dripping. Interesting that no locals in his restaurants – just tourists like me passing through never to return. Go home Rick – your restaurants need you! PS Do your Aussie restaurants cook in beef dripping? PPS Love your tv series but not wrapped in your food.
