Sneak a peek at the travel plans of the ultra rich

Just in case you need another reason to be jealous of the ultra-rich, wait till you get a look at their travel plans.

According to Skift, the latest trend in travel for the extravagantly wealthy is hyper personalised vacations.

The legends over as Skift had a chat with a few celebrity event producers who dabble in everything from destination weddings to island surprise parties.

Here are some of the standouts that made us drool with envy:

An anniversary celebration fit for a pope

If you don’t feel like sweating it out with the rest of us plebs, shoulder to shoulder, trying to catch a glimpse of the frescoed ceiling and fancy floor tiles, why not hire out the Sistine Chapel for a private viewing?

Well, if you have a cool 25,000 euros ($39,00AUD) you can have it to yourself for a whole half an hour.

Michelle Rago, founder of Michelle Rago destinations, sorted out a private viewing for two of her clients celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

“Faith is what binds them,” Rago says of her clients, one of whom is a high-profile serial entrepreneur, “being alone in the Sistine Chapel when nobody else is there is incredible,” she told Skift.

The couple were treated to a guided tour of the treasure room (ooh la la!) and the Room of Tears, where every new pope prays after being inaugurated.

“When you’re standing in that space, and you realize that every pope has passed through that space in privacy—and there you are, alone, being afforded that same moment of reverence … it’s pretty heady stuff,” said Rago.

A medieval castle proposal

For one Anglophile hedge-fund couple,  Harlan deBell, who runs the award-winning, honeymoon-focused agency the Travel Siblings with his sister Kara Bebell, organised a private dinner in- get ready- Wakefield tower in the Tower of London.

Turns out, if you’re rich you can just about hire anything for a private get away.

Debelle organised Helene de Rose, who runs London’s very swanky Connaught hotel to put together a set menu and famed florist Larry Walshe to decorate the tower with beautiful floral arrangements.

“She walked into this beautiful floral space for a full, catered dinner and a special menu designed around all her favourite foods,” said DeBell.

Surprise party on David Copperfield’s island

One half of a New York power couple was lucky enough for her husband to give her the surprise party of a lifetime.

The couple had planned to vacay in at Ocean Club in the Bahamas but their private jet made a slight detour, instead of heading to magician David Copperfield’s resort on his private island.

When the birthday girl landed, a crowd including family and friends from all walks of life were waiting at the dock.

We’re wondering if Copperfield himself was there to provide entertainment?

Proposal at the Louvre

Once again, we are in awe of what money can buy.

Debell managed to coax the Louvre into closing off the Denon Wing, home of possibly the most famous painting in the world Davinci’s Mona Lisa, for one filthy rich New York couple to seal the deal.

The couple wined and dined courtesy of the Ritz Paris, followed by the groom getting down on one knee.

“In that moment, we’d like to think the Mona Lisa finally smiled,” said Debelle.

Aaaaaaaaw!
