Intrepid launches Myanmar emergency appeal
Intrepid Travel has today launched a Myanmar Emergency Appeal through their foundation to support the work of Red Cross, who are helping hundreds of thousands of people seeking refuge from violence in the Rakhine State.
More than half a million people have crossed the border from Myanmar into Bangladesh to seek refuge after violence broke out in Rakhine State in late August. Temporary settlements and camps in Bangladesh are overflowing and it’s estimated the humanitarian situation in the region is likely to get worse. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is currently on the ground providing aid to people caught up in the violence on both sides of the border.
Intrepid Travel is encouraging travellers and agents to donate to Red Cross relief efforts by matching all donations made through its not-for-profit The Intrepid Foundation dollar-for-dollar, up to a total of AUD $20,000 (potentially a donation of AUD $40,000).

Don’t Wait for 2018: Book Inca Trail Travel from October 5
Award-winning, small-group tour operator G Adventures shared a time-sensitive message with its sales partners and travel customers today: if you or clients have long imagined trekking Peru’s famed Inca Trail and pictured yourself on its summit, looking out at the sacred site of Machu Picchu – or if you have friends, family or clients who are ready to fulfill this travel dream in 2018 – then now is the best time to act.
Inca trail permits go on sale Thursday October 5, and the Peruvian government will only award permits to tour operators with confirmed travelers for 2018. G Adventures cannot save spots for tentative trekkers.
In 2016, the company secured close to 8,000 permits on behalf of its customers around the globe. It has since collaborated with the local government to share feedback and strengthen the new timed entry procedures that were implemented to better protect the integrity and legacy of Machu Picchu.

Intrepid Travel wins tour guide Oscars again
Intrepid Travel is today celebrating winning Gold and Bronze at the Wanderlust World Guide Awards 2017, the tourism industry’s equivalent of the ‘Oscars for tour guides’. The adventure travel company has had more finalists than any other in the history of the awards.
This year saw Khalid Lamlih, an Intrepid Travel leader who grew up in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, clinch first place at the ceremony at London’s Royal Geographical Society on Thursday 5 October 2017, receiving his Gold Award from legendary travel writer Bill Bryson.
These awards, now in their 12th year, recognise the world’s best tour guides and honour these far too often unsung heroes of the travel industry, as voted for by Wanderlust Magazine readers and a range of knowledgeable and experienced judges.
Each year thousands of tour guides from around the world are nominated by their travel clients, making it a tough job for the winners to be chosen. Intrepid Travel’s local leaders have now been recognised with three Gold, one Silver, and three Bronze Awards as well as a one-off award for Outstanding Contribution.
