How to sell Washington, DC: a guide

How to sell Washington, DC: a guide

If you thought Washington DC was all politics and no play, we have the perfect guide for you.

Excite Holidays launched their ‘Washington DC: Capital of Cool’ campaign this week, in collaboration with Destination DC and Brand USA.

The guide shows once and for all that Washington is more than just Capitol Hill, The National Mall and The White House – it’s incredible architecture, quirky street art and world-class food.

And it gets even better: Excite Holidays are offering agents 500 rewards points for every night booked in Washington DC between Monday 31 July and Sunday 13 August.

The campaign is running for two weeks, and showcases amazing experiences, activities, hotels and the best food spots in six unique DC neighbourhoods: Georgetown, Adams Morgan, U street, Dupont Circle, Columbia Heights and NoMa; all ready to be explored.

Check out some of these fast facts to help you sell Washington like you were born there – and earn some of those ~rewarding~ rewards points while you’re at it. See what we did there?

  • Georgetown:

Colorful line of townhouses in Georgetown, Washington DC

History and modern style cross paths along the cobbled streets of Georgetown. Stroll along the canal and be transported back to the 18th century, or, at the intersection of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, enjoy some of the best shopping, finest restaurants and most beautiful houses in DC.

  • Adams Morgan:

Known on the weekends as the best spot for late night partying and a killer slice of pizza, Adams Morgan is also home to a number of incredible bookstores, restaurants and vintage clothing stores.

  • U Street:

The U Street corridor is an eclectic historical neighbourhood filled with unique indie boutiques, colourful and political street art, and some of DC’s best live music venues. Once a jazz mecca and the heart of African-American culture, U street is now bursting with food spots, vintage stores, jazz clubs and underground music venues.

  • Dupont Circle:

Home to the two mile stretch on Massachusetts Avenue known as Embassy Row, Dupont Circle is constantly buzzing. Embark on a walking tour past diplomatic sights, like the Nelson Mandela statue, shop up a storm at the unique boutiques or eat at one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants.

  • Columbia Heights:

Columbia Heights was once filled with abandoned homes and shops, but has recently transitioned into a bustling neighbourhood with a strong Latin and South Asian influence. On sunny days, locals will head to Meridian Hill Park to soak up the sun or see the regular drum circle on Sunday afternoons.

  • NoMa:

Standing for “North of Massachusetts Avenue”, NoMa is rapidly developing, and is home to Union Market – a year round food market filled with food stalls, pop-ups, distilleries and events.

The downloadable destination guide also features a variety of exciting things to do in these six neighbourhoods – and has been created specifically for agents to be able to sell to clients.

It has something to suit every traveller, no matter how long they’re going for or how long they want to stay.

The guide also comes with plenty of handy hot tips, essential attractions and places to snag seriously tasty food, like these pop-up boxes about U Street:
