When is the best time to book flights?

Skyscanner has brought the goods and let us in on a little secret – although truth be told you’re probably pretty clued in already. Regardless, the travel search engine has crunched the numbers to reveal the best time to book flights and travel to Australia’s favourite destinations in 2017.

The Best Time to Book is an analysis of flight data and fares over the last two years to understand patterns, and provide an indication on the best time for Aussies to get the best deals and cheapest flights this year.

To help better identify the best time to book their flights to 20 of Australia’s favourite holiday spots, Skyscanner has also introduce a new tool that will surface the best months in advance to book flights.

Flight routes in this tool include top destinations such as Bali, London, Los Angeles, Singapore and more from cities, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Skyscanner has pulled this into a big ol’ infographic, which we’ve popped just below, and which shows how you can get a good deal ahead of jet-setting.

Some highlights include:

  • May and November are the cheapest months to travel – saving up to 10 per cent
  • December is 26 per cent more expensive than other months
  • To get the best deal flying from Sydney to London, holidaymakers should book up to 25 weeks in advance. Whereas if travelling from Brisbane, booking only 21 weeks ahead will get you the best deal

And now for the rest of the data:

    1. what a stupid article.
We do 90% of our business for travel in Dec-Jan school holidays & the best time to book Dec-Jan is 11 months out. Only time in last 20 years this didn’t apply was at start of GFC in 2007 I think it was when yield managers totally lost the plot & were giving away Xmas flights for almost nothing.
