A cheeky 40% of you have broken your New Year’s Resolutions

Travel is one of the biggest New Year’s resolutions people make on January 1, and its probably one of the first that gets broken, sadly, but it seems that’s not the only thing we’re abandoning this early in the year.

YouGov research has found that as many as 96 per cent of its APAC respondents (almost 10,000, including 1004 Aussies) had made resolutions for 2017.

Interestingly, though, almost 40 per cent have already broken their New Year’s resolutions.

The top five New Year’s resolutions in APAC are: saving more money (67 per cent), eating more healthily (52 per cent), travelling to one or more place that they have never visited (48 per cent), losing weight or getting fitter (46 per cent), and getting a better work-to-life balance (39 per cent).

While number three in the priorities list was travel-related, getting more sleep also emerges as one of the top five New Year’s resolutions in Australia (26 per cent), Hong Kong (43 per cent), Singapore (43 per cent) and Thailand (38 per cent); while seeing more of friends or family is also seen as top five in Indonesia (36 per cent) and Vietnam (53 per cent).

Younger people are more likely to have made resolutions than their elder peers, with only four per cent of those 16-34 year olds saying they are not planning to make any resolutions for 2017, compared to 24 per cent of those 35+ year olds.

Interestingly, one of five Aussies say they are not planning to make any resolutions for 2017, which is five times more than the regional average (four per cent), and twenty times more than China (one per cent) and Indonesia (two per cent).

This is in line with the findings that almost three of ten Aussies (27 per cent) say they actually never make New Year’s resolutions in their lives, which is more than doubling the regional average of 12 per cent.
