What not to do on a bungee jump

What not to do on a bungee jump

More and more of us are travelling overseas with multiple tech gadgets, with research from Southern Cross Travel Insurance showing 92% of us can’t bear to leave the country without our beloved gadgets.

However, refusing to part with our tech on holiday doesn’t always go according to plan and can end up being a costly mistake.

Just check out this guy who was enjoying his moment of overcoming his fears while bungee jumping in South Africa. He forgot one important thing… to empty his pockets.

LANGUAGE WARNING: Keep the sounds down as there are a few bad words in there.

So what can you do to ensure you return from your travels with good memories and not expensive losses?

Craig Morrison, CEO for Southern Cross Travel Insurance says “The days of packing your travel bag with a book, pack of cards and a bag of sweets have passed. Aussie travellers are now bringing thousands of dollars’ worth of tech on holiday, yet many aren’t insuring these valuable items.”

“Unfortunately, when things go wrong – and items are lost, stolen or broken – it’s putting a severe dent in the back pocket!”

The top five tech items Aussies travel with are:

  • Smart phones (71%)
  • Camera (68%)
  • Tablets (45%)
  • Headphones (42%)
  • Laptops (40%)

Craig Morrison shares his top tips on keeping your tech safe on holiday:

  1. If they’re not essential to your trip, leave them at home. Do you really need your laptop and iPad? Can you take an older phone rather than your brand new smartphone?
  2. Travelling with expensive gear makes you a target to thieves. If you’re carrying your phone or other devices on you, keep them out of site and hidden away in your bag.
  3. Avoid walking alone in isolated or unlit areas, and never leave your bag unattended.
  4. Make a note of any identity numbers before you set of on holiday, such as an IMEI or serial number. If an item is stolen, it is usually possible to block the device so it can’t be used by anyone else.
  5. If you are planning to take multiple gadgets on holiday, consider their safety when choosing your accommodation. Remember that some accommodation won’t have a safe place to lock up valuables when you aren’t using them.
